Dewas Industrial Water Supply Project

Dewas Industrial Estate (DIE) a major industrial center in Madhya Pradesh located about 35 Kms. North of Indore on Agra-Mumbai NH-3. DIE is spread over an area of approximately 5 Kms. Nearly 460 big, medium and small industries located in DIE facing acute water shortage from last one decade. The DIE is receiving at the maximum 2.40 MLD water against the actual requirement of approximately 12 MLD water. This quantity of 2.40 MLD is being received from Tube-wells, Shipra river and Tankers operated by the local residents. Thus the availability and actual demand is having a huge margin adversely affecting the growth of industries. Dewas Industrial Water Supply Project has been planned for supplying approximately 1500 MLD water initially and thereon gradually increasing up to 23.00 MLD treated water for next 30 years. The supply of water from the proposed project will be made available to industries. The tenders for the project was issued in October, 2004 and the lowest bid of M/s. MSK Projects (India) Ltd. Baroda for supplying water @ Rs. 26.50 K.L. on the date of signing of Concession Agreement was accepted. The project is being executed on BOT basis. The total cost of the project is approximately Rs. 80 crores and the water will be brought from the Nemawar at Narmada which is about 128 Km. from Dewas. The company will supply water to the Industries after treating it as per specifications of CPHEEO for drinking water. Industries of Dewas has agreed to sign the advance water purchase agreement with the selected developer and to ensure the recovery of the water charges, MPSIDC will work as a regulator of the project and the amendment in the lease-lead is done whereby in case of non payment by any industries, MPSIDC will come into picture and it will ensure the recovery. The developer will construct the project in a period of 2 years and will run and maintain it for a period of 30 years. After 30 years, the project will be transferred back to the State Government at Zero Cost. This is the first water supply project in the Country which is being developed on the BOT format. This project will be a milestone in the field of Development for Water Supply Projects with private participation in the Country. Almost 59 Large and Medium Scale Industries and 400 Small Scale Industries will be benefited by this and the development of Industrial Area especially at Dewas,Sia and Ujjain Road will get a big boost by this. The Concessionaire will not only be erecting the scheme but it will also be upgrading the existing water supply distribution network of Dewas and will maintain the entire concession period.
The developer will have to carryout the following components in the project.

  • Construction of intake works at the proposed site for withdrawal of 5 MGD water along with necessary electrical and mechanical equipments and construction of Raw water sump.

  • Construction of 2-3 nos. pump houses in the route of the proposed transmission main having pumps to discharge 5 MGD treated water with pumping head up-to 270 meters along with necessary mechanical & electrical equipments. The bidder has to construct the pump-house required to house the pumping machinery along with the sump; to store the raw water as may be necessary to operate the pumps.

  • Construction of Rapid gravity filtration plant

  • Providing and laying of pipe conforming to ISI specification of 500mm flow diameter for transmission main from Narmada to Industrial area in Dewas approximately 128000 meters in length.

  • RCC Tank of adequate capacity in the route of Transmission main for gravity flow.

  • Providing & laying of pipe conforming to ISI specification of various diameters as per design for water distribution system covering the Dewas Industrial Area and extension areas like Sia. And to other industries in Dewas for supplying water at a desired rate and pressure. The distribution network will also include construction of RCC over head tanks of 15 meters staging having capacity of approximately 1000 KL.
